When an individual is no longer able to care for his or herself due to physical injury, illness and/or a physically or mentally disabling condition, Personal Care services may be needed for assistance with what are called “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs). ADLs are the tasks an individual performs daily to live independently. The following are ADLs that we at ElderOptions addresses with our Personal Care services:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Eating
- Toileting
- Physical Transfer and Ambulation
Personal care is provided by a Virginia Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). In addition to Personal Care Services, the CNAs provide Homemaker Companionship services, such as meal services, personal assistant services, light housekeeping and more. These caring – and careful — individuals work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
The following are the types of services our Personal Care caregivers provide in a professional and compassionate way to maintain the health and dignity of their clients:
- Bathing assistance (baths, skin checks, perineal care, nail care, hair care, dressing)
- Toileting assistance (toilet use, incontinence care)
- Oral hygiene assistance (brushing teeth, denture care)
- Ambulation assistance (exercise, assistive devices, bed-bound repositioning, transfers from bed/car/chair, safety alert technology)
Personal Care services are available daily, weekly or however often is requested.
